SNOWCASE

CLAIRE FELL

Abstraction resulted from a need to produce work linked to the process of etching, whilst the multiple format relates to print editions. Although my work is abstract, it is still quite controlled both in form and content. The work is cubic and can be likened to ceramic tiles. I am influenced by the structure of crystals, minerals and the texture of rocks, also by my memory of reticulated migraine aura.

Content is derived from the opposing elements of spirituality, meditation and science fact or fiction. Her painting methods are most important, derived from etching and collography techniques they are ritualistic and obsessive.
My work contains a subtle form of alchemy, transformation. Simple patterns are transformed as surfaces are built up and then abraded. I never know what is going to happen because the surface is in constant flux, old work never remains complete or finished … for long.
