KATE CALICO

My work reflects a fascination with layers, and the patterns hidden within them, and I work in mixed media, incorporating textiles, stitch, painting, found objects, and recycled materials.

I create collages, books and receptacles (a receptacle being “something for holding what is put into it” – Ref. Oxford Mini Dictionary), relating colour and texture to theme and shape, which are influenced by animal, vegetable and mineral forms.

Instinctive and intuitive working extrapolates the essence from the subject, and the finished form of the piece is allowed to emerge.
